August 31 - September 4

Current Project: Introduction to Drawing Techniques
Objectives: Create a 18 x 24 composite design with the following:
  • An object drawn using the following techniques: mass gesture; contour; cross-contour; hatching; cross-hatching; value drawing; stippling; value collage; high-contrast
  • Use proper drawing techniques and media for each drawing
  • Compose the nine 6 x 8 drawings to create pattern and rhythm in the overall design

Homework for the week: Make 3 2-minute modified contour drawings of your foot in your shoe (change the pose of your foot for each drawing). These drawings should be in your journals.
  • Monday: Homework is due. Complete the value drawing and begin the value collage (#8).
  • Tuesday: Work on the value collage.
  • Wednesday: Begin #9, high-contrast drawing. VVJ assignments are due!
  • Thursday: Discuss Composition and visual movement and how to complete the introduction to drawing project.
  • Friday: Journal Day. Activate 5 2-page bleeds in mixed media.

VVJ assignment: Use different media techniques to "activate" 5 2-page bleeds in your journal. They should be consecutive and have repeating elements. Once you complete the backgrounds, brainstorm a visual narrative that you can create through drawing and collage. Once you have completed the visual narrative, add the story in decorative text.
